Sometimes people ask me if it\u2019s really worth competing. If winning a medal actually changes anything. If it\u2019s just a symbol, another trinket for the shelf. Every time I hear that question, I take a deep breath. Because there are many ways to answer, but none are neutral\u2014and as a founder of Copa Cervezas de Am\u00e9rica, I have a perspective, and yes, an interest.<\/p>\n

A medal at Copa Cervezas de Am\u00e9rica is not just a shiny object. It\u2019s confirmation that a beer has something to say\u2014and that it says it with force. It\u2019s recognition given by an independent, diverse, experienced, and blind panel\u2014literally and metaphorically. Our judges don\u2019t know whose beer they\u2019re evaluating. All they have in front of them is a freshly served beer and its ID code. And if that beer shines, it does so on its own<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen transformations. Many. Breweries that used to knock on doors just to get someone to taste their beer, and after winning a medal, those doors opened by themselves. It\u2019s not magic. It\u2019s validation. A business card that says: \u201cthis is good, and it\u2019s not just me saying it, it\u2019s an international jury.\u201d<\/p>\n

I remember a brewery in the Los R\u00edos Region. Not large, but they did everything with great care. After winning, they started getting calls from everywhere. They had to learn to say no, to manage success. Because that\u2019s another truth: success must be managed. Yes, you celebrate. But after the celebration, comes composure.<\/p>\n

And then there are those who don\u2019t receive a medal. Who take away detailed feedback\u2014a technical, respectful, and useful evaluation. For many, that too is gold. Because there is no evolution without contrast. The judges\u2019 feedback is a roadmap for improvement.<\/p>\n

At the Copa, evaluation isn\u2019t random. It\u2019s rigorous, technical, and generous. In the first round, each beer is judged within its style. It doesn\u2019t compete with others\u2014it competes with itself. If it does well, it moves to the final round. There, direct comparison sharpens the decision. At least six judges will have tasted and discussed each awarded beer. That gives weight. That gives meaning.<\/p>\n

Winning a medal can increase demand, raise the price, and strengthen the brand. But beyond that, it generates something intimate: pride. The good kind. The kind that brings glassy eyes, racing hearts, and tight throats when someone says your brewery\u2019s name out loud\u2014and the whole team looks at each other knowing: we did it. Because it\u2019s not one person being awarded. It\u2019s a craft. A journey. A shared passion.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re unsure about participating, think about what you need. Visibility? Validation? Technical feedback? All of it? Maybe this is your place\u2014a fair space we\u2019ve built through collaboration, a stage that aims to illuminate the best of the continent. No matter the size, origin, or history. A veces me preguntan si vale la pena competir. Si realmente cambia algo ganar una medalla. Si no es solo un s\u00edmbolo, una chapa m\u00e1s para poner en la repisa. Siempre que escucho esa pregunta, respiro hondo. Porque hay muchas formas de responder, pero ninguna es neutral, y como fundador de Copa Cervezas de Am\u00e9rica, tengo una mirada, y tambi\u00e9n un inter\u00e9s.<\/p>

Una medalla en Copa Cervezas de Am\u00e9rica no es solo una pieza brillante. Es la confirmaci\u00f3n de que una cerveza tiene algo que decir, y que lo dice con fuerza. Es un reconocimiento dado por un panel independiente, diverso, experimentado y ciego\u2014literal y metaf\u00f3ricamente. Porque nuestros jueces no saben a qui\u00e9n eval\u00faan. Solo tienen frente a s\u00ed una cerveza reci\u00e9n servida y su c\u00f3digo identificador. Y si esa cerveza brilla, lo hace por su propio m\u00e9rito.<\/p>

He visto transformaciones. Muchas. Cervecer\u00edas que viv\u00edan golpeando puertas para que probaran su cerveza, y que tras ganar una medalla, vieron c\u00f3mo esas puertas se abr\u00edan solas. No es magia. Es validaci\u00f3n. Una tarjeta de presentaci\u00f3n que dice: \"esto es bueno, y no lo digo yo, lo dice un jurado internacional\".<\/p>

Recuerdo a una cervecer\u00eda de la Regi\u00f3n de Los R\u00edos, sin ser de gran tama\u00f1o, hac\u00edan todo con mucho cuidado. Despu\u00e9s de ganar, comenzaron a llamarlos de todas partes. Tuvieron que aprender a decir que no, a administrar el \u00e9xito. Porque ese es otro punto: el \u00e9xito se debe administrar. Hay que celebrar, s\u00ed. Pero despu\u00e9s de la celebraci\u00f3n viene la templanza.<\/p>

Y del otro lado est\u00e1n quienes no reciben una medalla. Que se llevan una retroalimentaci\u00f3n detallada, una mirada t\u00e9cnica, respetuosa y \u00fatil. Para muchos, eso tambi\u00e9n es oro. Porque no hay evoluci\u00f3n sin contraste. La retroalimentaci\u00f3n de los jueces es un mapa para mejorar.<\/p>

En la Copa, la evaluaci\u00f3n no es al azar. Es rigurosa, t\u00e9cnica y generosa. En la primera ronda, cada cerveza es juzgada dentro de su estilo. No compite con otras, compite consigo misma. Y si lo hace bien, entra a la ronda final. Ah\u00ed, la comparaci\u00f3n directa afina la decisi\u00f3n. Al menos seis jueces han probado y debatido cada cerveza premiada. Eso da peso. Eso da sentido.<\/p>

Ganar una medalla puede aumentar la demanda, mejorar el precio, fortalecer la marca. Pero m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de eso, genera algo \u00edntimo: orgullo. Orgullo del bueno. De ese que deja los ojos vidriosos, el coraz\u00f3n acelerado y la garganta apretada cuando alguien dice en voz alta el nombre de tu cervecer\u00eda, y todo el equipo se mira sabiendo que lo lograron juntos. Porque no se premia a una persona. Se premia un oficio. Un camino. Una pasi\u00f3n compartida.<\/p>

Si est\u00e1s dudando en participar, piensa qu\u00e9 necesitas. \u00bfVisibilidad? \u00bfValidaci\u00f3n? \u00bfFeedback t\u00e9cnico? \u00bfTodas? Puede ser que este sea tu lugar, un espacio justo que construimos desde la colaboraci\u00f3n, un escenario que intenta iluminar lo mejor del continente. Sin importar tama\u00f1o, origen o trayectoria. Solo importa lo que hay en esa copa.<\/p>

La Copa puede ayudar a que se vean las buenas cervezas.
